I modified a HF trailer like that and was encouraged to keep it short b/c of the light weight of the trailer. My "rack" is attached in the same areas as yours and I wanted to pass on something I have learned. The trailer is made from a thin material that over time and movement will stress and start to flex at the attachment points. After less than a year and about 3000 (+/-) miles, I can see my yaks sway with the rack on bumpy roads. Since I live in Mississippi, all the roads are bumpy, so I have tried a few quick fixes such as; larger washers on both sides of the attachment points, extra support accross the width, and cross sectional tension. None seem to have had any effect.

My plan is to totally rebuild with center bars mounted to the tounge like on commercial trailers, and metal diamond plate for the floor (for weight to make it more stable as it will be taller than it is now). Either that leave as is and box in the sides of the trailer with plywood, making a box and a top for the box.

Main thing is... keep an eye on the attachment points. You may want to beef them up b4 they become a problem.
