The air bags are designed to save you not the boat. What ever alternative you go with, try doing a wet exit and make sure you have enough flotation so the boat doesn sink when you try to reenter it full of water. You may have to wait until next year or at a pool session if possible.
Bulkheads were the greatest advancement in kayak design.
