Jay--
I found it interesting that you would mention the Cape Charles. I also built one as my first kayak. I didn't have a lot of experience with other boats and was worried that it would turn out to be a plywood barge. When I got it on the water
my first impression was that it compared most closely to (of the limited number of boats I had paddled) the Skerry that Martin mentions as his choice if he were going with a production boat. Your comments on width and volume are correct. I might add that I would like a little more bow volume. To this day it is the boat that I take on camping trips and also when I plan to be in a kayak all day without rest stops.
Martin--How is it that the Chesapeake is the only kit boat available in Europe. Is there a distributor there? For a 3 Star paddler aspiring to 4 Star I would think you would want to expand your search. Think seriously about building from plans if that will give you more choices. There aren't any questions that you can't get answered here.
