I've seen pictures so I know it's possible (pictures never lie ). I was thinking about it last Fall when we climbed a 12,000ft snowcovered vocanic cone (Mt. Adams) here in Washington State. Everyone slides down the mountain on their butts using a moutineering maneuver called "Glissading". On a slope like Mt. Adams you have to actually dig your ice axe into the snow to slow down and stay in control. You roll over and self-arrest if you start going too fast.
