After melting a pair of Gore-tex pants on the descent from Mt. Hood (butt glissading is a PNW thing), my wife and I discovered the "butt spoon". It is a thin plastic butt-sized sled with a handle that comes up between your legs ($3.99 at finer discount stores). You sit on the spoon, clip the handle through the waist strap of your pack, hold your ice axe with both hands and get ready for a hell of a ride.
