: Hi John -

: Looks like a good solution! I've question about your seat position. Most boat
: designs I've seen and built put the seat about 3-4" in front of the
: rear of the cockpit for proper boat trim. Is that seat for your Shooting
: Star and did you move the back of the cockpit forward or are you
: postitioning the seat approx. 4" aft of the plan design?

Hi Jim, Bill,

Jim you picked up on the seat position very well. I moved the rear of the cockpit forward six inches and will butt the seat against the back. This will put my weight a little forward of what the plans call for I think. I remember reading that someone with a Shooting Star thought the Bow was a little high out of the water so I thought I would drop it just a little. But Rob Macks places his seat five to six inches in front of the stern cockpit coaming so my center of gravity will most likely be about where his is.

Bill, I bought my seat a couple of years ago at Walmart for $7+. I was going to buy another one a months ago and they said they wouldn't have anymore until spring because it was seasonal. I have three wooden pads on the bottom of the seat that conform to the boat hull that I will fasten my velcro to.
