Actually, we are using kevlar for its flame retardant capabilities. Kevlar has a melting point of 500 degrees C or 932 degrees F. But, most kevlar materials are combined with other materials. The thread we are using burns easily by itself, but when sewn to a panel, it can withstand 20 minutes of direct flame without being consumed. The tape seems to have a sizing in it that burns off, leaving the kevlar fibers.
