I use a double paddle when paddling solo or with a weaker paddler. I don't know the length -- it is the longest take apart euro (a Grey Owl and probably a 240 or a 250cm) I could find that day. It does drip some but it allows me keep ahead of tandem paddlers and is a lot easier on the joints than a J stroke all day. I use it in the straight setting. Just take the blade measurements off of a standard double wooden paddle and you'll be fine.
good luck

: This isn't kayak related, but my brother paddles a canoe and I was thinking
: of making him a double bladed paddle as the first step toward converting
: him. Does anyone have dimensions and/or a link to dimensions for a double
: bladed paddle that could be used for a canoe? I assume that it would have
: to be longer since the paddler is higher up and the higher sides of the
: canoe will require the paddle to extend further out. Thanks.
