Yeh, but then you'd only be able to run it for 5 minutes at a time before the motor melted down... needs ventilation..

I've used Craftsman tools almost exclusively for 30 years and I've never had that kind of problem with any of them...
My guess is, you got a lemon...
Did you attempt to take it back and get a replacement??? They DO have a fairly good policy for this sort of contingency.... Expecially for a first time use...

I've had a DeWalt fall apart on me ( belt sander ), and it just started squealing and melted... I don't blame the sander or give them bad press for it... I got a new one. It has worked great for years.
