: If you have some excess strips, 8 to 10 feet long, you can make a tobbogan.
: If you have strips of odd thicknesses they work just fine for this. Cut 6
: or more crosspieces from stock that is 5/8 to 3/4 thick and perhaps an
: inch to 1 1/2 inhes wide. Make these as long as you want the width of your
: sled. 16 inches is a good width, but you can go wider or narrower, as you
: prefer. line up on of the crosspieces and use flat head screws to attach
: one end of each strip to the crosspiece. Predrill holes, and countersink
: those in the strips so your flathead screws don't protrude.

: Use steam or a heat gun to bend the strips. You might wnat to make a form and
: use that for bending the strips before you connect them. A rope or chain
: connects the end crosspiece with a crosspiece installed on the flat bottom
: , close to where the bend starts. This helps hold the bend in place.

: Varnish if you want, coat with epoxy resin if you want. Otherise, just wax
: the bottom, add a rope and go sledding.

This is a very good idea. I've seen some really nice strip tobogons. A great project for those "scrap" strips...a little ashe framing...the toughest part would seem to be the steam bending...However, nothing beats the sleds with the metle runners...the ones you could steer by pulling the handles on the front end.
