Glenn:
Even though I've had some experience with a plane prior to my first yak (a Guillemot Double), just having to do the shear strips where the deck and hull meet was enough for me. I could not imagine wanting to bevel each strip that I laid in place on the entire boat. Granted you have some time into B&C strips, (3 hours) but to hand bevel each strip as they twist around the forms would take a steady hand, and lots of experience do do the same "no gap" result that a B&C will give you every time you lay a strip.

I'm not sure about your comment about a bevel being stronger though. Bevel to bevel will have a 1/4" gluing area But on a B&C there will be 50 % more surface area to to be glued together (Pi x diameter = 3.14159 x .25 = .778)which I sure will be stronger in the end result. Also the cove makes a nice "trough" to hold the glue as you insert the nest strip. (Make sure you strip cove up!).

For my first I'm glad I did a B&C>
