Once my strips are cut, I go back and cut or router an 11° bevel on one edge to about 80% of the srips. This angle (believe it or not) accomodates a lot of a kayak and will allow you to just lay in strips with no hand beveling.

I use flat edge. I know C & B is ultimately going to be stronger but I have a few 5 and 8 year old strippers with flat edge and never had any problems with movement, misalignment or distortion. In my own experiments, I find the time spent trying to make good C & B strips and the time spent making tapered ends work with C & B is a lot of work. Good C & B strips routing is also very dependent on good strip thickness from the beginning as well. If your strips arn't on the money, your cove and bead sides will not mate in alignment.
