Re: Strip: Rolling bevel

The hull won't require any rolling bevels. The deck will because of strips running from the higher angle of the deck going to the lower angle of the back deck.

Here's how I do them.

I align the new strip against the "already fastened" strips I am going to mate to. Hold it temporarly in place with a few spring clamps. Put pencil tick marks across the new strip and the installed one every foot or so. Then I start beveling and matching the sections moving along little by little. By working this way, once an area is nicly fit you move forward fine-tuning the strip. I think the mistake a lot of people make in the beginning is that they just start in with the plane and go too far right off. I rough it in until there's a bit of a space showing on the outside - meaning the angle is not extreme enough. Then I go back to the pencil tick marks and fine tune it. A tough vertical strip that transitions to a flat back deck will take me about 5-7 minutes. After a while you just get good at it and If I can do it anyone can. I also fine tune with a long sanding block with some 60 grit paper glued to it. It's about a ft long. That helps to flatten the transitions and you can tweek the fit easier than a plane. The sanding block is also good on those super sharp pointed "V" shaped ends.
