: Now that I have finished Carol’s kayak I have been looking at Skin on frame
: kayaks. Before I start I have a couple of questions. First, is there a
: good book on building? Hopefully as helpful as Nick’s book .Second, are
: plans available? And what am I getting into? How difficult are they to
: build and how many hours are involved?
: Give me a little spare time and I try to fill it. I must be a mental case. I
: spent about a year completing two Guillemots. Still looking at the King or
: a Night Heron. Both are great looking boats.

Lennie,

Below is a link to two free plans (actually only the King is adult sized, the other is a child's sized version of the same basic plan). Also try Clark Craft (www.clarkcraft.com), they sell plans designed by Percy Blandford. Both the KC and the CC plans utilize plywood frames vs. steam bent ribs, which is the more traditional method and the method that has taken hold with builders. The book _Wood and Canvas Kayaks_ by George Putz, mentioned in another post by another person, uses a slightly different construction method to the plywood frame construction and I believe he uses solid wood frames (I believe) instead of plywood.

You may want to also do a web search for WA1URB. On that site is an online construction and offsets for building a SOF kayak, as well as a link to another website that sells plans for two versions of a SOF kayak.

If you want to build more traditionally, I highly recommend Morris' book _Skin on Frame Boats_.

Good luck with whatever 'yak and building method you choose,
Paul
