I used cabinet scrapers. Rectangular ones on the outside of the hull/deck, and curved ones on the inside. They worked great (WRC hull, EWC & walnut deck).
If I recall correctly, there may have been a few spots with some tearout, but it was minor. Where the scrapers really excelled was in fairing those areas where there are woods of different hardness. In my case, a 1/4" wide walnut strip that sat a little proud of the surrounding cedar. The cabinet scraper shaved off the walnut without taking any cedar off, and the end finish was perfect, IMHO.
For fairing the inside surfaces, my favorite tool by far was the curved cabinet scraper.
