Don’t feel like you are the Lone Ranger. I live in Indiana on a small farm. I took 5 acres out of production to make my little heaven with a pond and trees and I spend a lot of time there everyday planting trees and special grasses, waterplants, and putting up bird houses, etc. Next to my heaven is 1 ½ acres with a house that I sold off. (Big mistake, I should have burned it to the ground). These people had a 11 year old son that likes to shoot shotguns, rifles and a big pistol into my haven. I kept telling him to stop or I would call the sheriff. One day a round ricocheted and wized just passed my head. I told him I was headed to the house to call the sheriff and he let off a bunch of rounds as I walked away. The sheriff and deputy came out and to my surprise sided with the kid. They said in the country he could pretty well shoot where he wanted to, whether I was walking in this area or not. Besides that he was most likely shooting up in the air they said. I told them to come with me and I would show them my trees riddled chest high with bullets. They didn’t want to see it. I said OK; if it’s all right for them to shoot into my property that is my front yard in the country then it’s all right for me to shoot across theirs. The sheriff and deputy didn’t know what to say. I got the word to this kids family how their backyard would become my shooting range and the shooting stopped.
