There's a book out

"Building you Kevlar Canoe" by James Moran - Raggeed Mountain Press/McGraw Hill Book, Camden Maine.

They show how to "basically" do what you're suggesting. They use a home made styrofoam mold, but other than that it's got all the info you need.
