I have used tinted glue on dark wood areas. I added small amounts of powdered analine dies to get a darker color. The glue dries to a much darker color than the liquid color, so you need to experiment to get the color you need. Also, cedar will darken and shift color more than the glue will when you apply resin, so I suggest putting resin on glued up scraps to see how it will look. My tinted glue seems to be as strong as the undoctored stuff and caused no other problems for me.

On the boat in the photo below, I used un-doctored glue for the light colored areas and died glue for the dark areas. The dark streaks are streaks in the wood, not joint lines.
