In photography the standard use of the term "archival" means the image will still be in good shape after 100 years if it is stored properly. I woud assume that the archival inks offered for ink jet printers are marketed for photos and would meet those criteria. However, while there are many types of accelerated aging tests which might be used, there is no real authority or testing body which would certify things as being of "archival" quality, or set unambiguous standards, so manufacturers are left to label these things as they see fit. Buyers look for well made products -- and take their chances. If they are lucky the products will last longer than their creators and in 9 or 10 decades there won't be anyone around to sue.
