Are you actually going to inlay that marquetry work so it is flush with the surrounding surface, or do an "onlay"? If inlay, I'd like to talk to you about how you "carve" out the area for the insert to uniform depth, etc. I'd really like to do a flush inlay on the stripper I am about to start, but have never done one before. Some guidance would be much appreciated.
To you others out there, I know a lot of folks do "onlays" instead of inlays. My aesthetic sense tells me to go with the inlay if at all possible, because I just don't want that "edge", but I'd love to hear from those who have done either just how noticeable that raised edge of an onlay really is--does it basically disappear under the glass and epoxy, etc.? Are there any of you who feel it's worth the extra effort to do an actual inlay? Really close-up photos of the edges of some onlays you all have done might be nice to see (everyone loves to see pics of quality work, right? That's why I check out this board several times a day.)
Thanks.
