The question I have is this;
is this gentleman building canoes using traditional Inuit techniques (i.e. canvas over a basketwork frame) or is he applying planking beween the ribs and the canvas?
I can't tell from the pictures.

: Greg,
: In the 6th picture down the left column there appears to be planking on the
: outside of the ribs. If the lines are actually stringers they must be
: awful thin. Some additional information/pictures could clear that up.
: I've had a desire to build a SOF canoe for a long time. Always on the lookout
: for something new.
: Thanks for the web address. It answered a question about some S&G's I saw
: near Bayfield WI in 2002.
: I ran across a group paddling S&G's called Artic Hawks while visiting the sea
: caves off Meyers Beach. These guys had all the goodies. I wanted to know
: who designed their boats. I think they were offended when I asked if their
: boats were from CLC. Since then I've steered clear of folks wearing
: expensive wet suits and carrying red-tipped Inuit paddles.
: That was the nicest day of paddling I've ever had even tho' I got the
: brush-off from those superior folks and their Superior boats.
: Let's hope that Svend Ulstrup is more acommodating.
