Bug Control ... ?

: I'd hoped for more warmth in mine but like I say, it is partially shady back
: there. I suppose it depends on how much direct sunlight through the day
: and how well sealed up the hoophouse is. But then you need to check out
: moisture, condesation. I put black plastic down on the ground as sort of a
: vapor barrier. I've not put the heater out there yet, but insulation is
: virtually nil. I'd planned to "micro environment" tent the
: actual building table and shoot the heater under that. Everyone here
: assured me it would likely be fine if monitored well. But I live in
: eastern NC. I think you live away up north don't you? Probably
: considerably colder. Build one and give it a try! Relatively cheap and
: fast to put one up. Someone else may do a neater job than I did, but it
: will serve. It's 40 F outside this AM, and 47 F in the middle of the
: hoophouse. There should appear a link to a couple quick snapshots of the
: HH here. If link does not show up, paste this into your browser:

Thomas, it looks good. Did you use small slices of PVC to clip the plastic on... ?? Didn't think of that... I got the soft black vinyl tubing and cut lengths out of it as in the original set-up. I guess whatever works..

Good Luck racing the mosquitos.. :)
I'd suggest those bug bombs, but I'd be afraid of the fog ( residue ) landing on the boat and having to clean it ( and not forgetting ) before finishes are applied. Possibly using one or more of those patio torches(?) that resist bugs, at the end of the house, and air vents at the top of each end..??

Hope your hoop house works out there...

P.S. ( clipping another layer of plastic to the inside might help with insulating, giving a dead air space between the cold and heat, especially if using a heater, but 7* isn't bad for just one layer of plastic and little sunlight...
Plus it keeps out the wind and rain. You could also section off half of the HH with a divider of plastic, and put the heater on the side with the boat. Materials on the other side. )
