The reason I recomended The Woodenboat forum is because the advice there is anchored in reality. The range of experience shown by those folks seems much broader than the crew here. The Woodenboat folks are a tough lot and rather plain spoken.
In my view, paddlboats built from strips are more fiberglass/cloth than wood. The strips in the end are just a core that gives stiffness. I can't imagine an 18 ft. 1400lb. trailer weight sailboat built on that concept. There has to be a lot more wood or a lot more 'glass or combinations thereof just to keep the mast pointed upward.
As they say, "the devils in the details". I've read Hub Miller's book on cold molding and must assume that stripping a hull of the size you're talking about would be as complex. If you can recommend a book on large scale stripping I certainly would like to read it.
