: This type of construction has many issues that are
: completely absent in strip building. For instance, clinker construction
: demands precisely layed-out planks not a pile of uniformly cut sticks.
: Clinker requires carefully cut rolling bevels for the overlaping joints
while traditionally true, i can see no big reason why stripping could not be a subsection of lapstrake.
for example, if the forms had just straight lines on them for every 'plank' location, you could strip up each plank and use cheaters/fillers like we do at the ends but in the middle of each plank, say a couple per or just use our typical football stripping inside each 'plank' (ie strip inward from the outside edges of ea plank)or probably best, just strip in from the bottom edge overhanging the higher(closer to shear) proper plank edge, then use a batten to roughly cut off to the line, clean up w/ fairing board or later w/ an interior edge type plane or sander.
Still use a majority of 3/4" x 1/4" approx typical strips. roughsand a surface/land on the last strip of each 'plank' overlap it and keep going on the next plank. maybe play games w/ light stripplanks alternating w/ dark stripplanks.
would be real easy to accomplish. tough to glass the laps though.so make them angled or small offset and cut edge.
any one of us could give the effect of doing it now by the alternating colour method even flush on rounded forms.
