Hi folks,

More of a problem is actualy when the kayak is on the car rack and I pull the straps together. I have a "click" system strap - sorry I don`t know what these are called in English - anyway, the straps are tightend and there is always this limit that should be applied but where is it? The kayak and car should be one - secure. I´ve had a friend apply to much pressure and his kayak showed stress marks in the glass. I built a kayak for another friend and he wanted sectional "rims" inserted. The image below shows a rim for a "behind the seat" bulkhead hatch/rim aft-support.(Hee Hee alittle long) When the hatch cover is screwed into place a gasket prevents water (should the cockpit fill with water) from entering the aft compartment. Another rim was placed just in front of the foot braces - both provide support when entering the cockpit, a rescue and strap support. Good this meant added weight - but this was minimal. The wood used was a marine grade plywood about 3/4 inch.
Maybe an alternative
Kind regards
Bryan

Oh, ps. The actual reason for these rims was to have a watertight compartment without a conventional deck hatch. The bow of the kayak has 80 cm kayak flotation bag that fits snuggly in the bow peek.
