Hi C,

We are talking about the same thing. I have completed several canoes/boats and now working on a Cape Ann kayak. I have used West, MAS, Raka, and US Composites. I had an amine blush problem on my first boat which caused me to remove the West glass wetout and fill. The mistake I made was that I did the wetout and unfortunately allowed the epoxy completely cure. I didn't know about amine blush. I did not wash the hull before did the first fill. After removing the West epoxy/glass with a heat gun, (yikes!!!) I resanded the hull and re-glassed with MAS epoxy, which was less expensive than West. (no blush) I still wash the hull down once cured as a matter of course. I have since used Raka and US Composites. (no blush). I think that wetout and fill were much easier due to the slow cure.

My point was, why pay a premium price for a product that has this blushing problem? I realize that if you use the fast hardener with US Composites epoxy, you will have to contend with blush. (not a big deal, washes right off) US Composites epoxy with slow no blush hardener is $86 for three gallons!! In defense of West epoxy, West has been around over 20 years and has stood the test of time. The others have not. I'll take my chances!!!

: We may be talking about different things.
