: I was skeptical that the strip technology we use could be scaled
: up to include anything as big and complex as an 18 foot sail boat.
: Although there were claims that big boats were built the same way no-one came
: up with any specifics about the process.
: I went looking for a book on the subject to see whether or not my judgement
: was correct. So far I haven't found one. I want to know how it's done and
: am willing to cough up the price of a book to find out. Nothing more than
: that.

Charlie,

The best reference I know of, and the one I built my boat to, is by the developers of West Epoxy.
"The Gougeon Brothers on Boat Construction" features a whole chapter (Chapter 20), on the specifics of strip plank construction, and a series of colour plates on some of the boats they have built using the technique. In addition there are additional chapters on lofting, building forms, fairing, finishing and mounting hardware, and others that are relevant to strip building.

I built my 25footer before the internet, and the designer is now heading up the family boat building business in NZ so is no longer just designing. His name is Duthie Lidgard, a search on Google will find him, and an email to him referencing the Lidgard 25, I am sure will produce a set of study plans.
