I thought of doing the slice-a-seat method but instead chose to make a computer model which I could then slice in any arbitrary direction. This let me play with a variety of lamination schemes before settling on one. I probably spent at least as much time thinking, designing, and fiddling with ideas as I did actually making it.
Below is the computer rendering of the design I settled on.
