I'm playing around with this idea for a strip down the middle of the kayak. It's all walnut and basswood. I'm not sure if it's going to look that good since most of my accent is cherry, but I don't have much cherry and strangely enough I have plenty of walnut. I'm using two covering boards in cherry then the field will be basswood and the feature strip is seen where it is supposed to go. Notice how thick this strip is. This is key to getting a smooth pattern in the end.
