If you are proficient with the router certainly it is a workable solution. A router leaves little room for error though any mistake can be fixed. One thing to remember is that the bit will cut deeper than you might think when it is on a curved section of hull. Another is the different densities and/or grain characteristics of each strip as you make the cut. Some strips may cut like butter, others may dig a little and make the router harder to control, especially when you go cross grain from strip to strip. I would not hesitate to use a router in areas that make it a good choice. I also would not hesitate to use a sharp chisel in areas that would make it the better choice. Flexibility in style and tools, along with an awareness of your abilities, is the key.
