: The surface is normal strip - I use mainly larch but I have noticed that on
: darker woods - mahogany, I`ve seen light smudges - like a jellyfish got
: caught under the glass. Understandable, the manufacturer says, for weaves
: more than 150gr/mē (5,3 ouce) they cannot guarantee a clear finish.
: It's not about the weight, and how much epoxy is needed to fill the weave.
: Moreso it is the clear finish when using darker woods.
: I`ll be opting for a lighter weave - 4 or the 3,25 oz. that Bobby is using.

: Thanks for your help!

I used the RAKA 3.25oz Satin Weave ( tight weave ) on my canoe and it was very easy to wet out and is clear as glass... In spots where I cut bias tape out of the cloth and triple covered the outer seams, you still can not see any weave and it's still clear. On the bow and stern Keel I folded over the glass and also added some 4oz. and 6oz. bias cut strips and in those areas there I have nearly 18oz of glass cloth, there is finally a slight discoloring. Where I applied the 6oz. ( the 4 and 6oz. pieces were an open weave cloth given to me as scraps by a friend and I don't know the brand )
I used RAKAs epoxy with slow hardener and it was thin and was workable for over 45 minutes to an hour, so filling the weave was not an issue.

I will be using the 3.25oz. Satin Weave on my upcoming boats and doubling it in the football area, stems, inside the cockpit and under the deck behind and ahead of the cockpit for strength/support.
