One other item for the first-aid kit to deal with all of the blood is kotex. They are pre-wrapped, reasonably sterile and soak up an amazing amount of blood. If you don't have room for the pads, try a couple of OB tampons. They are very small and can be unrolled to provide a good absorbent bulk dressing. Also, they are a heck of a lot cheaper than a pile of sterile-wrapped 4x4s.
