C & B or flat edge? *LINK*

In some ways it gets back to that old C&B vs flat edge building.

With C & B, a butt joint stays more in line. I strip all flat edge. I've use butt joints and back them up with a small piece of strip and some spring clamps to keep the curvature fair. But I find it an annoying chore.

I pre-glue up my shorter strips the night before with scarfs and wood glue. This little jig Is what I use to glue them up. I can glue up 15 pieces in minute or so once the jig and pieces are laid up on the floor.

I have a straight guide and a notch cut out so I can squeeze the joint together with a spring clamp. I use a scrap of wood on both sides of the joint. It's elevated to accommodate the spring clamps. The end clamps prevents it from walking apart. Once clamped, I place the strip on the floor and slide it forward and do the next one. Seriously, once laid out, you can clamp up scarfs in seconds.
