You are worrying about the wrong things.
Going to thinner strips will make a measurable difference in panel stiffness while the difference stemming from the type glue joint will make none at all.
: Hi All,
: I'm using 3/16" strips and have been holding off routing beads and coves
: on them. I was wondering if there is a difference in rigidity of the
: finished kayak if I simply go with a beveled edge. I know the glue is
: usually stronger than the wood. If the glue has a greater surface to bind
: to (bead and cove) will the hull become more rigid. I ask because I don't
: have any experience with a beveled edges only hull. I don't want my hull
: oil-canning if I can help it.
