Thanks Joe, thats the look I want. For what it's worth, some of the lines on the Cris Crafts were painted. They actually used wide boards and then painted a caulk lines between the real ones! I was surprised first time I realized that. I have one that I hope will come into my shop to be restored in the next couple of years (long story).

The photo, that is exactly what I had in mind for my boat.... I mean Nicky's boat. :-) Actually I think I may build twins. I love that look. Looking at that photo I realize that one strip wide with a pin stripe is to narrow. So I guess doing the narrow strips individually would be the better way.

We don't have much in selection of wood around here. Boat building lumber is all but none existent. My best choices for light colored wood are pine, poplar (where I am leaning) and maple. Popular can vary wildly in color too.

Thanks for the input. That gives me what I need to make my choices. And I hadn't thought about a darker sheer but I must say I love that way yours looks. I have some walnut in the shop and it might find it's way into the boat.
