: Does anyone have a schematic or a picture of a S & G Night Heron front
: hatch? I am ready to cut the front hatch opening, but do not know the size
: hole to make nor where to put what pieces (hatch lips, spacers, braces).
: A picture or a schematic would really help!
If you are building the S&G Night Heron from the kit, you should have the "C" shaped rings that will create the lip or sill for the front hatch.
You can use one of these as your pattern to mark the hatch. The "C" shaped piece that is narrower is the spacer. Use the inside edge of the spacer as your pattern.
Measure about 56" back from the tip of the boat. This measurement need not be exact, and given that the tips of the bow panels often break off, they are likely to be a little bit off, but the exact location is not that important.
The spacer is slightly egg shaped if you put both halves together. Note the narrower end of the egg. This is the front.
Align the inside edge of the front of the spacer with the 56" mark with the flat edge of the spacer aligned with the center seam of the deck both front and back. Use a pencil to make a bold line on the deck following the inside edge of the spacer. Flip the spacer over to the other side of the deck and repeat.
