That skeg box assembly was installed but I never cut open the hull since it wasn't needed. It sits epoxied in the hull. I started to make my lever box (shown) but never needed to finish it. I made the round indentation by routing two half round pieces and joining them. I know there a few paddling friends who made push-pull units that can post a pic. For a knob I was going to use a round piece of aluminum that I could drill and tap in a set screw and run the cable through it. Sometimes you have to walk around Home Depot and see what you can adapt to work.

On my skeg box photo you can see I used a gas line coupler that fits the poly sleeve perfectly. Depot and good hardware stores have a section with a lot of those unusual fittings.
