: I was thinking of coloring the deck of my strip boat. I have used graphite
: powder mixed with epoxy to wet out fiberglass before.. with good results.
: I was wondering what you guys suggest in regards to pigments (for instance
: green). Can you mix it in when you wet out the fabric or is it best left
: to fill coats? I have a Kirton racing kayak and the deck is blue on the
: inside and out, making me think it's a simple thin glass deck wetted with
: pigmented epoxy.
: Or should it just be painted after the fact with some sort of paint? I tend
: to beat up my deck and wanted it as 'integral' as possible, so I don't see
: through in spots.
: Also, if pigment is added to the epoxy to wet out and fill, is there a reason
: to varnish after, or just apply some 303?
: Also, any recommended sources for actual pigment? thanks guys
The Kirton most likely isn't epoxy, it's more likely polyester and the color is gelcoat.
Very rare to find production boats built from epoxy, I only know for sure of one kayak done that way, takes too long for it to set up and there is no easy way to finish them.
