Just finished my first build from plans - the 17 and half foot 'Point Bennett'.
It was pretty straight forward and there wasn't to many surprises. I researched alot from archives here and the CLC web site and bought a stitch and glue building book. Took my time and did test samples if uncertain. Jumped in and went for it. The people who contribute here inspired confidence to take on the build.
I've paddled the Point Bennett on ocean swells ( + rebounding waves) playing in the surf - up to 6 ft and flat water and some wind. It's is well behaved for me and tracks well - don't need a skeg/rudder so far. Fair primary stability and great secondary. Enough room for camping. Nice looking shape.
I'm at 155 lbs and 5' 10" though you would be inside the designed weight/height range.
Duane Strosaker who contributes here, designed and issued free at his web site the plans for this kayak, Thanks again Duane!
