KellyT, here is my old veteran of ten plus kayaks and three small boats and a number of other odd jobs. The lower yaw is grinded shorter and sharper than original. The lower yaw is pushed under the staple, and when pushing the handle down it closes on the staple and pulls it gently and efficiently.
