: I wiped w/
: My guess would be contamination from the Acetone.
: All the information I have read from the epoxy manufacturers says to use
: NOTHING but water. No soaps, no solvents, just water, and a scrubbing pad.
: This great because you don't have to expose yourself to these hazardous
: solvents and you don't have to pollute to get ride of them.
: Coating the bare wood with resin before applying glass has no delam problems
: if you read and follow the epoxy manufacturer's instructions. I use System
: Three epoxy which allows me to wait up to 72 hours and still apply a new
: coat without sanding. I don't wait that long. Epoxy cures for weeks. In
: the time given by the epoxy maker, the new coat will cross link to the
: previous one.
: Don't rely on someone's feeling that it precoating the bare wood won't work.
: Read the information provided with the epoxy you buy or call their
: technical help line.
: Remove the delaminated glass, feather the edges of the old glass and apply a
: patch which overlaps the old glass by 3 inches.
: Just do it! You can waste a lot of time and angst over thinking about it,
: when just doing it is fast. Been there done that!
: All the best,
: Rob
I agree, as usual, with Rob. Most acetone these days is recycled and you have no idea of what trace chemicals are present.
Acetone used to be the universal solvent for polyester layups, big shops bought the stuff in 55 gallon drums and even washed their hands in it (I did years back). But acetone does really nasty things to your bod (and brain btw), you'll be far better off if you never use it. It's just not required with epoxy, water and sometimes soap with a scotch brite pad does the same things with epoxy and is far easier on you.
Ok off the soapbox, for now
