Hey Bill,

From what you and Rob have written I guess that's why I use my ROS in combination with a long board. I get the best of both worlds. For a beginner on a rounded surface it is easy to make a lot of flat spots using a ROS. I know I have... So that's why I use the ROS to hog off most of the material and get me close to the final surface. l then follow it with long boards to refine the surface. That goes for both the raw wood and on the final fiberglassed outer skin. On hardwood I sometimes even revert to first using a belt sander but I always finish with the long board. Like you said it does the best job at fairing out compound curves. Period. The pad on the ROS is just too small for any kind of fairing.

That's what I do and have good results doing it. Like the old axiom says: "Whatever floats your boat..."
