I only ever tape the joins in and out and don't glass the hull. My partner might glass the inside of the cockpit area on the one she is building at present as it is lightly built. Even lighter is the one I'm finishing and thinking of (maybe) cockpit-glassing too.

Incidently, the planks were made up (on my partner's) by butt joining and a piece of glass on the inside only.
