Hi Paul,
There has been a "competition" to build boats like this, sheets of ply, some 2x1's and tubes of PU compound running during the Baltimore Boat Festival, the past few years. Baltimore, Ireland, that is.
It's a lark and at least one of the boats is still together as a display at the pub down the road. (free advert It's the Oldcourt Inn.

I think I'd prefer to tape seams, one way or the other.
