Hey Bill,
A mile? I'd leave the Hyunda behind and walk it to the lake on a trolley. The walk would get you into an aerobic state easier than driving. :) It's easier to stretch out warm muscles than cold and less likely to get cramps.
The walk back gets any stiffness out of your legs afterwards.

Saves on gas, too. :)

For a mile of a tow, the scooter would do. If the seat rails are strong enough, you can mount a drop frame for the hitch. A friend of mine did it for his XL250, a double paralellogram joined with cross-struts at the back. The hitch ball is mounted on one of the struts. All of angle-iron. Not pretty, but.
He took the XL from here to Ulan Batar a few years ago. Without the trailer or hitch. :)
