: now in the process of varnishing the kayak. using epifhanes varnish thinned
: out to 25% as per the can and now on 3rd coat. looks great except for some
: very tiny bubbles in finish. sanded to 600 grit between coats. temperature
: is 75 degrees. have I missed anything to get that perfect finish?
: Is this only possible if one sprays it on?
Btw, I roll my varnish, yeah I know sounds like it won't work, works fine, does need tipped off with a brush or it's full of bubbles. I use a thin nap conventional roller cover and a foam brush. This process is much faster than just brushing alone so you don't have to worry about keeping a wet edge and it's much easier to maintain a consistant coating thickness, something that can be difficult with a brush.
Don't overly worry about the tiny bubbles, if your varnish has tiny bubbles left after tipping/brushing it's too thick and needs thinned. I've been using Captain's varnish and it's wonderful to work with, wish I'd found it years ago (thanks Rob).
