The two part clear varnishes shouldn't allow darkening but they also are a very rigid coating not allowing much movement. Unsure how they'd work on a stripper that tends to move around a bit. I know they work very well on big boats varnish work, finish tends to stay the same color for years. There are also now non-varnishes (don't know what else to call them) they are clear and do the job of varnishes but are different and usually with alot less work. Bristol Clear is one I remember right now. Not tried them myself.
