Off Topic: waterproofing aromatic cedar

I'm building a bird house from old aromatic cedar closet lining; want to get it done fast, as it's almost nesting time.I was thinking about sealing it with epoxy and then varnishing, but I'm wondering if several coats of varnish will get the job done faster.-Greg
