: How did you make the detail strip with the triangles? It's very striking.

The fancy centre strips were the first part I did while I was getting organised to order the Paulownia.
I often find I settle on a technique based on the materials I have and the tools I have access to.
I glued three 12mm strips together; Cedar in the middle and Kauri on each side.
I then used the table saw to cut those triple strips into 12mm lengths, so that each bit of Cedar and Kauri were squares.
I glued the pieces together at a 45 degree angle so that the corners of the Cedar squares lined up. A strip of timber at the back of the pieces made it easy to keep them straight.
I then ran them through the table saw to take the corners off the Kauri. They only needed a little bit of cleaning up with a block plane.
I then glued the couple of thin strips on either side.
So I never actually cut out any squares or triangles. They were formed as I cut the short lengths of triple strips and cut the edges off the 45 degree assembled strips.
I hope that makes some sense. Pictures would have made it obvious how it was done.
