Works the other way, too. I would imagine most folks using this forum, who would take the time and make the effort try and turn a bunch of wood sticks and a bottle of glue into something that will not only keep you alive on open water, but look damn good in the process, might be, like my occasional self, a little on the side of anal.

Sometimes it's not so much a lack of patience, but not knowing when to leave well-enough alone. As Etienne and Bill needed tell me regarding my desire to keep fussing with epoxy, "Stop now - you're done."

No doubt that in this instance it's mostly a matter of patience. The end's in sight, weathers getting nice and I'm ready for closure on this project. But there's also desire not to waste time and potentially do more harm than good (as can often happen, tagging my glass again!). You're advice conveyed that it would likely not be a waste of time. I appreciate (and well heed to) your advice.

Wondering if in your model painting days you'd had the ability to at any moment in time to walk up to a little electronic box, ask it a fairly uncommon and fairly specific question (in that case, how long should I wait for my paint to dry?), almost instantly receiving an informed and detailed answer (from someone who could very easily be on the other side of the planet), your fingers might not have stayed a little cleaner?

Sorry, I shouldn't type after second cup of coffee. And yes, there will be finger prints in my varnish! Knowledge of my own behavior enough to know that I'll need a little test plot for such occasions of impatience. I'll dab a little an area up under the deck bottom, where no one will ever see it.
